Spear Says Association鈥檚 Value Has Been 鈥楨stablished,鈥 Calls for Growth

Nashville, Tennessee 鈥 In his annual State of the Industry and Association Address, 黑料不打烊 President and CEO Chris Spear praised the industry鈥檚 efforts to keep the country moving through the Covid-19 pandemic and continued work to address issues critical to trucking.

鈥淭hroughout this pandemic, truckers proved how we make a difference. There was no playbook. Yet our drivers are once again this industry鈥檚 most valuable players. You鈥檙e among an elite list of professionals that include scientists, first responders and healthcare providers,鈥 Spear said. 鈥淲hen many in this nation sheltered in place, you maintained composure and answered the call.鈥

Spear said ATA鈥檚 ability to remain aligned on key issues was critical to being at the table as key decisions are being made in Washington and around the country.

鈥淒espite playground politics, there鈥檚 reason to be optimistic. In the wake of it all, America responded鈥 thanking truckers in every state, Congressional district and community in the country, he said. 鈥淥ur image is what we make of it鈥 it鈥檚 who we are and how we want to be perceived. We need to ride the crest of this wave, steering each challenge toward a favorable outcome.鈥

A singular favorable outcome Spear called out as imminent was passage of the bipartisan infrastructure bill in the House.

鈥淭he Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is an example of what鈥檚 possible when we tell our story,鈥 he said, calling the bill a 鈥渉istoric鈥 investment not just in our roads and bridges, but in developing the industry鈥檚 future workforce.

Victories like the infrastructure bill are key to establishing ATA鈥檚 value to the industry, Spear said, but said the next step was growing the association and its influence.

鈥満诹喜淮蜢萯s not, nor ever will be, the association of 鈥楴o.鈥 We鈥檙e not complacent obstructionists. When confronting an issue, an opinion different from our own鈥 we double down our effort to improve that outcome,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e don鈥檛 complain. And we don鈥檛 quit. And our persistence and dedication to any challenge, no matter how hard, is why we win.鈥
